Schmap It

More exciting photography news! Two of my photos have been included in the most recent addition of Schmap It New York.  Schmap It is an online guide.  The two photos that were included were of the Williamsburg Bridge (January 5, 2010) and Bryant Park (January 31, 2010).

Here are the links to my photos:  (My photo is in the right hand column.)

I have to say, this has been a really nice, affirming weekend for me, photography wise.

Here are a few more pictures from my in-laws' backyard. (Check out March 7, 2010 for previous photos.)  A giant tree fell over after a terrible storm last week.

Update: February 6, 2010-Day 37

I just found out that one of my photos from this day was added into Shutter Sister's 365 page.  I'm so excited!  You can see the photo here:

Jerry in a Basket, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

My friends are going to let me take some photos of their daughter when she is born in a couple of weeks. Since I am not great at taking pictures of people, and I have never taken any of a newborn before, I decided to practice a little. Jerry volunteered for me. I think this shot came out nicely. Of course, he can hold very still so I didn't have to worry about my shutter speed.

I really liked the moss growing on this tree, so I took a closeup.

Pay Phone, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

Pay phones are getting more difficult to find, but there are still a few around. I don't know if I would really want to use this one, though.

It's a beautiful day and the first day of Spring. Flowers are starting to pop up around the neighborhood.

Chinatown, N.Y., originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

I was a little disappointed because I didn't get any pictures of anything representing St. Patrick's Day, but I still enjoyed the beautiful sunny day. In Chinatown, a lot of women were using umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. I noticed this woman's bright yellow umbrella all the way across the park.

Queensboro Bridge, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

Took this picture of the Queensboro Bridge yesterday while in midtown Manhattan. My father actually pointed out the shadow in the building and thought it would be an interesting picture. I agree.

March 14, 2010, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

You may have noticed, that in addition to all of the photography blogs I am following, I have also added some cooking and health related blogs to my reading list. I have been on a health kick lately. Okay, it's only been a week, but I am still proud of myself. Plus, the best things is, I am rewarding myself for losing weight, and all my rewards are photography related items! I am hoping to lose enough weight by the end of the month to earn those extension tubes that I mentioned in my last post.

Anyway, since I am always rushing in the morning, I don't have time to sit down for a good breakfast before I leave work. I decided to make some quiche cups to bring with me to work. They are really easy to make, and only 40 calories each.

March 13, 2010-Day 72

Orchid, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.
It was a miserable day in NYC, so I stopped to take some pictures of some beautiful flowers in Home Depot. This makes me wish I had a macro lens, or at least some extension tubes.

Manhattan Bridge, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

This is the Manhattan Bridge. I really like how I can see the bridge on both sides as well as in front of me. It makes me like I am being towered over. I tend to favor wide angle pictures, and I would love to have an ultrawide lens one day.

More interesting graffiti in Brooklyn. I wonder how they even got up there to paint it.

I call this cat "Stripes." He is a stray cat that lives on my street. Don't feel bad for him. Look at what a chubby little kitty he is. He is obviously not starving.

In honor of Mets tickets finally going on sale.

I don't know why there is a shadow behind Mr. Met. I bounced my flash off of the ceiling to try to avoid a shadow, but it didn't work. I have to practice that more.

February 28, 2010-Day 59

We then drove up to Asheville, North Carolina the day after the wedding.  Asheville looked like a cute little artsy town, but, unfortunately, many of the stores seemed to be closed in both Sunday evening and Monday morning.  It was too bad because many of them had cute things on the windows.  Oh well.

While we were in Asheville, we did visit the Biltmore Estate.  It was beautiful.  They did not allow any cameras inside the residence, but here are some photos from the estate:

February 26, 2010-Day 57

I'm way behind on my blog again because I went out of town for the wedding of one of my best friends.  She was getting married on Saturday in Inman, South Carolina, but a giant snow storm hit NYC Thursday.  I was really worried that we would miss the wedding because of the weather. This is what it looked like when we got to the airport on Friday morning:

Jet Blue rocks, though, and we managed to fly out. Fortunately, the weather in North & South Carolina was beautiful, in comparison.  This is what it looked like in Charlotte when we landed:
