Hugging Tree, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

I like this tree because it kind of looks like two trees hugging. I don't like how the picture is blown out on the right side. Oh well.

Boots, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

It was a rainy, gray day. This woman's red rain boots really stood out on the subway.

Jeremy's Ale House, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

I stopped by Jeremy's Ale House last night for a drink with some friends. It is kind of a "Hogs and Hefers" want-to-be kind of place, without the bikers or bartenders dancing on the bar. It is actually pretty quiet on most nights, even though they serve beer by the quart.

February 21, 2010-Day 52

I know this picture violates the rule of thirds, but I love it.  If you can't tell, this is a tiny, private cemetery in the middle of nowhere.  Check out the larger size on Flickr.

Cemetery

I think the black and white adds to the creepiness of the pictures, but I like the original color picture too.

February 20, 2010-Day 51

I'm late posting these pictures because I went upstate this weekend.  Here are some of my favorites from Saturday:

Signs of Spring, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.
Took this at a pretty little park in Williamsburg, right next to the old Domino Sugar Factory. It felt a little (very little) spring like today, and I liked how there were some old flowers next to the snow.

Took this with my Powershot on my way home. I love the colors this camera gives me, but there is always so much noise.

Happy Mardi Gras!

We had more snow here in NYC.  It was supposed to just be a dusting, but, as you can see by these pictures, it was more than that. Since it snowed all day again, I took these with my Powershot.

Aviation HIgh School, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

Happy President's Day.

Aviation HIgh School in Long Island City has a bunch of military planes in its yard. I actually took this photo through a chain link fence. I used a low aperture, focusing on the plane, to blur the fence.

Subway Dancers, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Chinese New Year.

Here is a picture of a break dancer at the 14th Street Station. I took a bunch of photos, but they really didn't come out too well. Because it was so dim in the station, I had to use a really low shutter speed to properly expose the photo, but then they were blurred. I finally took a few that were intentionally underexposed so that I could speed up the shutter, figuring that I would try to lighten it up with post processing. It worked, but it is still pretty noisy.

Since it is Saturday night, my husband and I tried a new Italian place in the neighborhood.

Here is another shot taken at Juniper Valley Park. (The first was taken on January 21, 2010.) The park was actually featured on NY1 for great places to go sledding in NYC, and I can attest to that. My parents use to take me sledding there when I was younger, and it has an awesome hill to go down. I took this picture at dusk, and I love how the blue sky is reflecting off of the snow. (Or at least I am choosing to look at it that way as opposed to a white balance issue. Lol.)

Februaty 10, 2010-Day 41

We are having a really bad snow storm in NYC that hasn't stopped all day.  Here are a few pictures that I took from my door since I am not taking my camera outside in this weather.

Don't worry. No peacocks were hurt in the making of this picture. The feather was obtained after the peacock shed its feathers for the winter.

I find this a little odd: graffiti promoting literacy.

Swing, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

I think the focus is a little soft, but not bad considering she was swinging around me in circles.

February 6, 2010-Day 37

I went to visit my niece this weekend.  She had a swim meet and it was her birthday.  I took a ton of pictures. I took them in both raw and JPEG.  Raw pictures allow for easier editing to make the pictures just like you like them, but editing is required.  JPEG pictures are usually adjusted by the camera a little, which means you don't have to edit them, but they may not always look exactly how you want.  (This isn't the best technical definition of the two, but it is how I understand it.) Anyway, I just got Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I haven't even loaded it onto the computer yet, so these are just a couple of the JPEGs that I took.  Hopefully I will get around to practicing editing over the weekend so I might post more from this series.

I rented the Canon-50-200 2.8 L lens to get some action shots of my niece's swim meet.  The L line is the best that Canon makes, and I can see the fantastic quality of the pictures it takes.  Of course, it's biggest limitation is me. Lol. I found it a little difficult to keep up with my niece who swims at lightning speed.  She won 5 out of 5 events that she was in!

Despite all the action shots I took, I am posting this one of my niece and her best friend.  It looked like they were telling secrets while they were waiting for their relay to start.  I think it is very sweet.

Best Friends

Saturday was also my niece's birthday, so here is one from her party.

Happy Birthday!

Fozzy Bear, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.
Here is a picture of part of my pez collection. I liked how only Fozzy Bear was looking at me, while everyone else was perfectly lined up.

Pizza, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

I realize that I am way behind posting my pictures, but I have kept up with actually taking a photo every day. I was out of town over the weekend, making posting photos impossible.

Anyway, here is one from February 4, 2010. I was pretty busy getting ready for my trip, so we just ordered a pizza for dinner. I was trying to get a picture of the ooey gooey cheese.

Woke up this morning to snow on the ground. Apparently, a cat had already taken an early morning walk.

Frustration, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

This is how I felt after work today. It is also how I felt after I spent an hour trying to set up and take this picture without realizing that I didn't bother to check the background for clutter and the light from my neighbor's window. I really need to me more conscious of my surroundings instead of just focusing on the object that I am trying to photograph.

February 1, 2010-Day 32

If you can't make it out, the writing on the lower left hand side says, "If you can't beat em join em."  I wonder if that means the owner of this van did the graffiti himself.

Graffiti

I finally purchased a pro account at Flickr so that I don't have to re-size my pictures anymore when I post them at Flickr.  So, if you want to see one of my picture in a larger size, just click on it to bring you to my flickr page.
