May 9, 2010-Day 129

My  mom and I went to the Bronx Zoo on Mother's Day.  My dad actually works at the Bronx Zoo, which makes me totally jealous.  I took over 500 pictures.  Before I get to my favorites, I need to get political.  NYC is proposing to cut the budgets of the Bronx Zoo and Coney Island Aquarium by 42%.  Please consider signing this online petition against it.  Thanks.

Now, here are some of my favorites:

Here, all the older monkeys are wrapping themselves around the 2 week old baby monkey (who is orange) while they nap in order to protect him.

And here is the baby clinging onto his mother. (Taken in TV mode)

And some of the lion cubs. (The first one was taken in TV mode.)

While I normally only take photos in full manual, I have to admit that I wound up throwing my camera into TV mode for part of the day.  For those that don't know, that means that I set the speed and iso, and the camera sets the aperture.  It felt a bit like cheating, but it was pretty helpful when taking photos of the animals when they were running between shaded and sunny areas.  I just could not keep up with setting the correct exposure in full manual.
