July 10, 2010-Day 191

As I previously mentioned, we went up to Boston over the weekend to visit some friends. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very nice, so we headed over to the Aquarium.

Aquariums are very difficult places to take photograph. They have notoriously bad lighting and everything is behind glass that often has hand prints all over it. The Boston Aquarium was no different, but here are a few that I think came out okay.

After we left the aquarium, I popped on my new ultra-wide angle lens, and we walked around Boston for a couple of hours.

From there, I put the 28-75 back on, and we headed over to Boston Common:

We were really lucky because it only rained while we were in the aquarium. We heard that Boston got over 4 inches in less than 2 hours, though, and the lake in Boston Common actually overflowed.

This swan didn't seem to mind, though.

July 9, 2010-Day 190

Farmer's Market, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

We went to see a good friend in Boston this weekend. On Friday, I really only took a few quick shots because we were so busy catching up. Here is one from the farmer's market at Copley Square. It's funny because I took of photo of some nice healthy vegetables, but we actually bought some goat cheese marinated in olive oil. Yum.

Scavenger Hunt-Week of July 4, 2010

This week's items are:
National Pride
Sunset
Fire
Favorite
Sepia or Black and White with Selective Coloring

We are only supposed to use one photo from our archives, but, unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to take some of these photos this week, so I am cheating and pulling two photos from my archives. (Actually three, but I am not counting the last photo since the editing is new.)

National Pride: This is a photo of the statue of Benjamin Franklin in front of Old City Hall in Boston.

Sunset: (Photo previously taken and in auto)

Favorite: Here is a photo I took of a frog at the Boston Aquarium which I am using to represent my love of all animals.

Sepia or Black and White with Selective Coloring: This is the first time that I have done selective coloring. I rarely like selective coloring in a photo, but it was good to learn how to do it. This photo was previously posted in May, but the editing is new.

In A Yellow House-Sepia or B&W with Selective Coloring

This week's photo challenge at In A Yellow House is Sepia or Black and White with Selective Coloring. I will be posting a B&W with selective coloring later on this week for the weekly scavenger hunt, so I decided to submit a Sepia toned photo for this challenge. This is a photo I took at my friend's wedding this weekend. I thought that the classic photo would look nice with a sepia treatment.

July 8, 2010-Day 189

We found a pretty caterpillar by our door. He was very friendly, and surprising fast, which made it a little difficult to take a photo of him. I'll also be adding the first photo to Macro Friday at Blogging From Bolivia.

You Capture-America

This week's photo challenge on You Capture at I Should Be Folding Laundry is America. Here is a photo of the Cyclone at Coney Island's Astroland, which feels very representative of America to me.

My neighbor's lilies finally bloomed. All of my neighbors are getting used to me taking photos of their gardens. It's too bad that I seem to have a brown thumb.

It reached 103 in NYC today, so it was way too hot to got outside and take pictures. This is what I came up with when brainstorming inside photos.

I originally posted this photo back in March and I am submitting it to B&W Wednesday this week at the Long Road to China. I actually took this photo with my powershot, so I was happy that I managed to get some bokeh.

Happy 4th of July!

ShutterLoveTuesdays

Since this week's theme on Shutter Love Tuesdays at Trendy Treehouse is the Fourth of July, I am submitting the first photo. Not only did I take the photo on July 4th, but it celebrates the first war heroes of our country.

Jeromus Remsen, a Revolutionary War veteran and hero of the Battle of Long Island, is buried in a little cemetery in Queens. Most people do not even realize that it is a cemetery because it is so tiny and it is just in the middle of a sidewalk. Several of his cousins, who were also Revolutionary War veterans, as well as his wife and several of his children are also buried there. At this time, only 6 gravestones still exist.

We went to the Brooklyn Cyclones vs. Staten Island Yankees game in Coney Island. It was a beautiful evening. Here is a shot of Astroland at night that I am submitting into Sweet Shot Tuesdays:

There were fireworks after the game. I never photographed fireworks before and I was not prepared with a wide enough lens. I shot these in TV mode. My photos did not come out great, but here are a few that are okay. I definitely must try this again.

In A Yellow House-Travel

Bermuda, originally uploaded by Ms. Baboo.

This week's photo challenge in a Yellow House is Travel. Here is a photo that I took in Bermuda. We traveled there on a cruise, so this photo shows both how we traveled and where we traveled. This photo is a few years old, and was taken in auto.
