On September 1, 2010, we went to Six Flags Great Adventure.

They are tearing down the Great American Scream Machine, which may have been the first big roller coaster I ever rode. It reminds me of my youth and it makes me sad that they are ripping it down.

Do you know what this is?

August 29,2010

Yeah, me neither. I think I thought it was a bug, but now I don't think so. Sometimes I feel so rushed to take photos. I really need to be more deliberate.

August 28, 2010-Day 240

I mentioned awhile ago that my father and I would be racing in the Great Urban Race on August 28th. We had a great time and we finished the race on time. It was so much fun. After the race, they had a contest for the best costumes. These were the winners.

I liked the retro look of this VW Van. I think I'm a bit of a hippy at heart, and I always wanted one.

I think my neighbors thing I am a crazy person the way I always run after the neighborhood cats to photograph them. This is Kitty, the boss of the block.

Lamp Post

A lamp post at my friend's house. I though that the lines were interesting, but it actually didn't photograph that well. It was pretty blah, so I decided to edit the heck out of it.

August 20, 2010-Day 232

Fountain

This is a photograph of some leaves seen through a water fountain taken at a slow shutter speed. I really like the abstract art that it created.

Some cat toys at the pet store. I know this shot is boring, but it's all I took for the day.

It's a macro shot of a plum.

Flower

I like how this flower came out. I did not shoot it on a black background. I took this in its natural setting, but the background looks black because there was not enough light. (I think.)

August 13, 2010-Day 225

Garden

This photo is pretty blah to me. It looked much cooler in my head. I liked the way the retractable roof looked at this bar, but I didn't capture it that well.

Self-Portrait

An another self-portrait of sorts. That's a reflection of me in my husband's eye. You can even see my kitchen behind me.

August 11, 2010-Day 223

Self-Portrait

This is not the photo that I intended to post for this day. In fact, I might have pressed the button by accident. But I actually like it. If you can't tell, that's me looking at my camera settings.

A bike grows in Brooklyn?

August 9, 2010-Day 220

Berries

These were also growing in our garden when we got home. We didn't plant them and I have no idea what they are. Any body know?

Tomatoes

When we got home, our tomatoes were ripening nicely, thanks to my mom's hard work while we were away.

August 6, 2010-Day 217

Our flight didn't leave Hawaii until 10:00pm, so we decided to spend the day driving to North Kohala because we hadn't seen it yet. First we drove to Hawi and had lunch at Bamboo Restaurant. I don't have any photos, but I highly recommend it if you are on the Big Island. Then we drove to Kapa'au, where we saw this statue of King Kamehameha The Great. It is a duplicate of the better known one that is in Honolulu. Interestingly, this was actually the first one that had been commissioned to be placed in Honolulu, but it was lost at sea on it's way from Paris to Hawaii. After a second one was made and placed in Honolulu, they found the first statue, which they placed in Kapa'au.

After lunch, we continued on the road until it ends at the Pololu Valley Lookout. We hiked about halfway down to the beach, despite this sign:

Pololu Valley

It was worth it, though, for these views:

I know these are pretty similar, but I can't decide which I like better. What do you think?

Then we headed back to South Kohala along the Kohala Mountain Road, which is inland away from the ocean.

When we got to South Kohala, we still had time to explore a lava tube that we had spotted the day before. This photo was taken on August 5th.

Lava Tube

We knew that we could walk through the entire law tube and come out the other side. Despite that, it was still pretty dark inside.

Lava Tube

After walking a while, we finally found a way out.

Lava Tube

Unfortunately, I was too short to actually be able to climb out and I was afraid that if my husband tried to pull me out, I would fall backwards, so I passed off my camera and climbed back down to try to find another exit. Here are a few that my husband took of me trying to climb out. I was really proud of myself for getting out by myself.

Of course, it was a lot easier once I passed off my camera and had both hands free to climb.

So, that is the end of my vacation photos. Finally! Hopefully I'll be able to catch up pretty quickly with my blog now.
